Why Detoxification Is Necessary

In response to last week’s Health Tip #672 titled “China Study Challenged” I received many letters including this one:

“Thank you for addressing the flaws in Dr. M’s article. I receive [his] almost daily newsletters and read this same article. While I respect much of what Dr. M. does to educate people about healthier living, he was so off-base this time that I was stunned! There are few scientists who are more respected than Dr. Campbell. I hope Dr. M sees your analysis of his thinking and comes to see how wrong he is about Nutritional Typing, which he is developing into a money-maker for himself. He is harming a lot of people by teaching them to misinterpret detoxification symptoms.”

As Joyce did, I took great exception to many of the statements a medical doctor (we referred to as Dr. M) made, especially with regard to determining proper diet through “Nutritional Typing.” Here is what he said on the subject.

Dr. M: “. . . . large numbers of sick people fail to improve when they implement vegetarian or vegan diets. Nutritional typing is a way to determine what your customized diet is … If after a meal, you feel sluggish, tired, nauseous, or depressed, your meal was not ideal.”

What Dr. M. describes here are the symptoms of detoxification. When a person who has been consuming the cooked Standard American Diet adopts the 100% plant-based Hallelujah Diet, they often “feel sluggish, tired, nauseous and depressed.”

Last week we discussed why this doesn’t mean the diet was wrong. It signifies that the body is beginning to unload toxins into the blood system for removal. Healing cannot take place until the body has rid itself of these toxins.

Defining Detoxification
Dictionary.com defines “detoxification” (detox) as“the metabolic process by which toxins are changed into less toxic or more readily excreted substances.” It is the process of withdrawing from dependence on a habituating drug.

Before anyone can overcome alcohol dependence, or dependence on a drug such as cocaine, heroin, marijuana, caffeine, nicotine, and even many doctor prescribed and over the counter drugs, they must go through detoxification (“detox”). This is precisely why there are “detox” facilities across America to assist people going through withdrawal.

Dictionary.com defines “withdrawal” as the act or process of ceasing to use an addictive drug.

Similar to an addition to alcohol or drugs, withdrawal happens when a person attempts to “withdraw” from the Standard American Diet – a very toxic diet to which most people have a true addiction.

Webster’s College Dictionary defines “addiction” as “dependence on or commitment to a habit, practice, or habit-forming substance to the extent that its cessation causes trauma.”

Many people who want to rid their diets of refined sugar, refined grains, table salt, caffeine, and animal-sourced foods fail to realize that these substances are highly addictive. To switch to a healthy, plant-based diet often requires a period of detox.

What An Alcoholic Experiences During Withdrawal
If we based how an alcoholic “feels” as they attempt to break the addiction, they would never break their addiction because they feel miserable.

When a person attempts to switch from a diet loaded with sugar, white flour, refined grains, table salt, caffeine, and animal-source foods (all addictive substances), they often feel miserable as well. And how can they stop feeling miserable? All they need do is return to those addictive substances they are seeking to withdraw from. Unfortunately, like the alcoholic, running back to the addiction doesn’t solve the problem.

Detoxification Defined
The average person’s body that has been consuming the Standard American Diet (SAD) and doctor-prescribed and over-the-counter drugs is loaded with accumulated toxins (poisons). Our bodies’ God-given intelligence is constantly trying to keep us alive. When we put things into the body God never intended, the body seeks to deal with these toxins as best it can in order to survive.

As we continue to ingest toxic substances, the body gets rid of what it can and stores the rest where they will do the least harm. When a person finally stops ingesting these substances (as happens when someone adopts The Hallelujah Diet), the body is prompted to eliminate them.

As these toxins exit the body, various symptoms can manifest as the toxins make their way into the bloodstream for removal. Most symptoms cause only minor discomfort, while others are more problematic.

Detoxification Symptoms
1.   Headaches are one of the most common symptoms of detoxification. They are caused by withdrawal from caffeine, nicotine, SAD foods, drugs, etc.

2.   Fatigue is common as the body’s energies are directed to getting rid of accumulated toxins.

3.   Urine often becomes dark and foul smelling.

4.   Skin often becomes an avenue for elimination, causing rashes and sores. The tongue can become white and “furry” and breath can be foul.

5.   Diarrhea is a common complaint during detoxification.

6.   Mucous membranes throughout the digestive tract can produce phlegm that is often coughed up, while cold or flu symptoms can manifest.

7.   Feelings of euphoria can occur as the body is freed from toxic build-up. Sometimes these feelings are followed by additional symptoms of detox. These highs and lows may continue for several days or even weeks until the detox is complete.

Don’t Be Alarmed
All of the above and more are potential symptoms of detox
. Please do not become alarmed or think that your new diet is wrong. In most instances, within 7 to 10 days these detox symptoms will disappear.

Fortunately, 60% of those who make the diet change experience such mild symptoms the person often doesn’t even realize they are going through detox. Approximately 30% notice some symptoms, but they are usually mild enough to continue regular activities.

Occasionally, a person may experience detox symptoms so strong they feel they must stop the detox. For those it is suggested that, rather than stopping The Hallelujah Diet, they cut back on the amount of BarleyMax and vegetable juices, and add a little more cooked, plant-source foods. This will usually slow the detox symptoms and make it possible to continue on to victory.

What Happens If Detoxification Is Stopped
If a person follows the advice of Dr. M — accepting the premise that these symptoms are an indication that the diet is not the right diet for them —and adds the SAD foods and drinks back into their diet, detox symptoms will cease.

However, just because the symptoms stopped does not indicate that the plant based diet was the wrong diet. Instead, it is a sure sign the plant diet is the right diet and that healing has already begun.

If a person stops the detox because of its symptoms, unreleased toxins will remain in the body. Toxins will increase as more SAD diet foods are placed into the body. Eventually the person will pay the price for returning to the SAD diet by manifesting new and increasingly more troubling physical problems.

Understanding Detoxification
Almost all disease has a common cause – the accumulation of toxic, acidic waste in the body’s fluids and tissues. Though these so-called “diseases” may manifest in various forms (colds, flu, arthritis, fibromyalgia, diabetes, osteoporosis, ulcers, headaches, cancer, obesity, and more), the principles of bodily healing are almost always the same.

If a person will provide the body with the conditions necessary for self-healing to take place, healing will usually start to manifest quickly. These conditions are getting rid of the toxic build up while simultaneously providing the body with the building materials found in raw plant foods and especially raw vegetable juices.

To assist the body in removing the toxins in a timely manner, Hallelujah Acres recommends the use of their Fiber Cleanse product. Fiber Cleanse contains 27 colon cleansing herbs in a psyllium base. It hastens toxin removal and promotes regularity while at the same time detoxifying the colon.

Almost every person who follows the nutritional dictates of this world, including the teachings of the university trained dieticians, will experience disease in one form or another. Going to doctors for help and ingesting doctor-prescribed or over-the-counter drugs in an attempt to recover from the diseases will never restore one to health.

Sadly, doctors do not deal with causes, but symptoms. Drugs have never healed anyone of anything because they too deal with symptoms, not causes. In fact, doctor-prescribed and over-the-counter drugs themselves are extremely toxic and only exacerbate the problem by increasing body toxicity.

Our bodies were designed by God to thrive only on the foods God placed in the Garden of Eden (see Genesis 1:29). Sickness was not a part of God’s plan for man. He designed us to be free of sickness.

Sadly, in our ignorance, we have been placing into our bodies substances He never intended. The Bible warns us of the irreversible law of sowing and reaping in Galatians 6:7: “And be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

If You Want To Be Well
In John chapter 6, Jesus asked a crippled man at the pool of Bethesda a very important question: “Wilt thou be made whole?” In our modern day vernacular Jesus was asking him, “Do you want to get well?”

Today, there is so much controversy and conflicting information regarding proper diet we should consume in order to obtain and sustain our bodies in a state of health.

Friends, I thank God I am not a medical doctor or a university trained nutritionist, because most of those who are have been so indoctrinated in their university training often cannot accept anything outside of what they have spent tens of thousands of dollars learning.

Most of the people of this land have been programmed to accept the teachings of these university trained individuals. But please, take just a look around you and you tell me whether you see robust health or deteriorating health. Listen to the prayer requests in your church and you tell me what type of prayer requests dominate.

God says: “My people are being destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6).The Bible also tells us that: “The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.” (I Corinthians 3:19). It’s high high time we stopped listening to the world and returned to the Bible and started listening to our Creator!

God gave us a diet in Genesis 1:29, designed by God to keep us in excellent health.

“AND GOD SAID, Behold, I have given you every herb (vegetable) bearing seed; which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat (food).”

When we follow these instructions we experience health. When we deviate from this 100% plant-based diet and seek food outside the garden, we violate the natural laws God established and suffer the consequences.

When a person who has been consuming seeks to return to God’s original eating plan, they often have to go through detox. But please don’t let these detox symptoms stop you. You are, in effect, dealing with the cause! And on the other side of detox is a rainbow and a pot of golden health. HALLELUJAH!
