Rev. Malkmus’ 77th Birthday

February 12th is a very special day in my life — First, because it was on this date in 1934, at 8:20 a.m., that I physically entered this world, and secondly because it was on this same date in 1992, that Hallelujah Acres was birthed.

I really feel blessed to be celebrating my 77th birthday, because neither my mom nor dad lived past age 65, and I am only 5 years from outliving the oldest recorded age of any family member on either my mom’s or dad’s side.

Mother died following a bout with colon cancer, and dad died after suffering numerous strokes and heart attacks. So if genes have anything to do with what physical problems develop in a person’s lifetime, surely I was a prime candidate for both mom’s cancer and dad’s stroke problems.

And sure enough, in 1976, at the age of 42, I was told I had colon cancer. Rather than going the medical route mom had gone before me for her colon cancer (with horrible consequences), I opted for “The Genesis 1:29 Diet.” Within one year of making the diet change, my cancer was gone. I have remained cancer-free every since.

Then in 2001, after returning from a speaking tour in South Africa where I had delivered seven seminars in six day to an average crowd of 600, and was in the air 53-hours, I lost my ability to speak coherently while delivering a seminar at Hallelujah Acres.

I was rushed to the Shelby hospital where I was diagnosed as having experienced a hemorrhagic stroke (a blood vessel had ruptured in my brain). Doctors blamed the stroke on the extended stress experienced during my South African speaking tour, including 53 hours in flight over the Atlantic Ocean and hopping all over South Africa.

Doctors immediately wanted to give me intravenous drugs and airlift me to Charlotte for surgery to cauterize the bleed. Rhonda was concerned. Since my body had not endured a single drug for the previous 25 years, she worried the drugs could kill me. She was also concerned about giving the doctors permission to open up my brain.

After Rhonda refused to give the doctors permission to treat me, the doctor told her that without treatment I would die. After Rhonda’s final refusal of any medical treatment, I was ordered out of the hospital, sent home by ambulance, and transferred to my bed by stretcher. Rhonda had to sign a form stating that I had arrived home alive.

At home, Rhonda immediately started me on the Hallelujah Recovery Diet, which includes a fresh raw vegetable juice or a barley powder drink alternately every awake hour. By the next morning my thinking abilities had begun to return.

Within one week of the stroke, Rhonda took me to a neurologist who read my hospital records, talked to me, and exclaimed, “You’re a miracle!” He went on to say that 50% of all who experience a hemorrhagic stroke die and the remaining 50% are usually left with physical and/or mental limitations, yet just one week following the stroke I had none.

I am convinced that if I had not been on The Hallelujah Diet when I experienced that stroke 10 years ago, and if Rhonda had not refused medical treatments, and if she had not given me copious amounts of raw vegetable juices, I would not be celebrating my 77th birthday.

In fact, as I prepare to celebrate my 77th birthday, I feel absolutely TERRIFIC! They call me Mr. “T” here at Hallelujah Acres. I have incredible energy, endurance and stamina, (even more than I had before the cancer or stroke), along with a resting pulse in the 50s, and I still find life on planet earth a wonderful, exciting and blessed experience!

But I am not only thrilled to reach the age of 77 with a sound mind and strong physical body, but also thrilled to still be able to do anything physically I want to — including daily vigorous aerobic workouts, stretching and weight resistance exercises, going on 2 – 8 mile power walks, doing hard physical work… you name it!

I go to bed around 9:00 p.m. each evening and then most mornings I am up at 3:00 a.m. to work on my weekly Health Tips in my study till 6:00 a.m. Then I go back to bed from 6:00 till 7:00 for a power nap before rising for the day.

And as for my energy level, you can come see me in action at one of my seminars and watch my physical abilities and energy level for 3 hours. I’m often called the “Hallelujah Energizer Bunny.”

At the age of 77, I am also able to carry on a vigorous schedule. This schedule includes conducting some 30-plus seminars and driving over 30,000 miles annually, with remote radio interviews and occasional television appearances, in addition to writing a weekly Health Tip. And I can still type over 50 words a minute with almost zero error.

Rhonda and I are both active in our local church. We both love gardening and each year, during the growing season, grow much of our salad vegetables along with some organic fruits. I even mow my own lawn and take care of the landscaping.

Today, at the age of 77, I have no sign of senility, Parkinson’s, arthritis, mental fog, liver spots on my hands, or a protruding tummy. I don’t have an ache or a pain in my body, and still have a full head of hair that continues to regain color after turning snow white following my stroke in 2001.

My eyesight is such that I do not need glasses for distance or reading and two years ago, I passed my North Carolina driver’s license eye test without glasses for the first time in more than 50 years, and my “Corrective Lenses” restriction was removed. That’s a BIG HALLELUJAH!

At age 77, my hearing and smell are exceptionally keen and I weigh the same as I did in high school, with a waist size of 32 inches. And although I have been on a 100% plant-based, mostly raw diet for 35 years, there is no indication of a deficiency of protein, nor any mineral, vitamin, or any other nutrient.

And for those who might be interested, my height is 5’ 9”; weight 145 pounds; and I have a lean, muscular body with rock hard abs, calves, biceps/triceps, and I am still building muscle without any animal source protein in 35 years. The audience always gets a kick out of my beating my tummy and showing my muscles in my seminars.

I do not believe I have ever felt stronger in body or mind then I feel as I celebrate my 77th birthday without an ache or pain. To God be all the glory, because He created this physical body I possess, and he designed it to be exercised and nourished exclusively with garden foods so that I can continue to experience health into my later years.

I believe that the only reason I have reached age 77 in such a physical and mental state is because I listened and applied what my Creator communicated to me in His Word, the Bible, in Genesis 1:29, 35 years ago. And let’s not forget what the Bible says in Galatians 6:7: “Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

Since the stroke in 2001, I have decreased the number of seminars delivered yearly, and I have cut out all air travel. But I still deliver the first Saturday-of-the-month seminar here at Hallelujah Acres, still travel by auto to give seminars in the eastern U.S., and I still write the weekly Hallelujah Health Tip.

Many tell me that I have more fire in the delivery of my seminars than I had before the stroke, and I still deliver the three-hour seminar without notes, with tremendous recall, and then answer questions while experiencing no fatigue. Today, my passion and concern for others, especially God’s people who are sick and dying needlessly, has not waned!

While I have no plans for retiring, I have decided to make my recent two-week speaking tour in Florida the last one where we are on the road for several weeks at a time. Yes, Rhonda and this editor are finally planning to take some time off every now and then to smell the roses.

Since starting Hallelujah Acres on February 12, 1992 we have not taken a vacation, nor did we even go on a honeymoon following our marriage on April 11, 1992. These past 19 years have been almost totally devoted to getting God’s health message out to a Christian community that is sadly just as sick as the non-Christian community.

With my son Paul as President of Hallelujah Acres, and his very capable wife Ann at his side, along with an outstanding and dedicated staff, I feel Hallelujah Acres is in excellent hands to continue without Rhonda and this editor being almost totally involved with the ministry six days a week as we have been for most of the past 19 years.

Thank you for your continued love, prayers, and support, and thank you for sending in those testimonies — nothing encourages and motivates me more than reading how The Hallelujah Diet has restored the health of God’s children and in some cases even saved their lives.

And thank you especially for those who have stood with us and encouraged us through the years. We love you and thank God for each of you!
