How To Make 2013 The Healthiest Year Of Your Life

When I was a boy, Ed and Herb were my very best buddies. We lived in the same neighborhood, went to the same schools all the way from kindergarten through high school, and played together after school most every day.

We were in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts together, went to the same church, were in the same youth group, played on the same church basketball team, and Ed and I even went through U.S. Navy boot camp together during the Korean War.

We were also almost the same ages – Herb was born December 16, 1933, Ed January 1, 1934, and I on February 12, 1934. Because Both Herb’s and Ed’s birthdays fell where they did, they were both ahead of me one year in school, but that didn’t make any difference in our relationship.

Then all three of us married, and went our separate ways.

I became a Christian on May 29, 1957 at a Billy Graham Crusade Rally in Madison Square Garden and immediately wanted others to know the joy of sins forgiven and a guaranteed future home in heaven that I had come to know. This caused me to think of Ed and his wife Rose and wondered if they knew Jesus – so I made a visit.

On that visit, Ed and Rose were gloriously saved and Ed went on to school to prepare for Christian ministry. Sadly, other than for some early on contacts, and then Christmas card contacts through the years, we had very little communication with one another. When I received Christmas cards from both Herb and Ed for Christmas 2008, I had a longing to hear their voices, and so decided to give both a call.

Now it is important to note that it had been some 50 years since we talked to one another, as our only communication through the years had been limited to Christmas cards and brief notes. In other words, we were all around 25 years old the last time we had any personal one-on-one contact. So, when I called these buddies, we had 50 years of catching up to do.

Interestingly, when you haven’t seen another person for some 50 years, you tend to remember them as you last saw them. In other words, you don’t think about their current age or what their current physical condition might be. So in my mind I still saw them as healthy individuals in their 20’s, and this is where I had a terrible shock.

In talking to them, I learned that Herb had experienced five heart by-passes and has had to severely limit his physical activities, while Ed had experienced a heart attack, received a number of stents, was on Coumadin, and was also limited in his physical abilities.

UPDATE: On December 20, 2012 (just a few weeks ago) I called Ed and Herb again and was devastated to learn that since I had last talked to Ed he had experienced a stroke, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, and is now suffering with diabetes, while Herb wears a pacemaker.

In 2008, as we each talked about our physical conditions, it gave me opportunity to share my experience with cancer in 1976. But here is the reason why I am sharing this with you… and it is my hope and prayer that you will take this to heart:

Both Herb and Ed went the medical route with their various physical problems, while I had refused all medical help.

Now let’s think about this for a minute. All three of us were almost identical in age, lived in the same neighborhood, went to the same schools and church, and were raised on the same Standard American Diet (SAD) diet. I’ll bet some of you have an idea of where this article is headed, and you are no doubt correct.

Due to the same SAD diet we each had, as we got older, we all experienced physical breakdown – Herb and Ed heart and circulation problems, and I had cancer.

When Herb and Ed experienced their physical problems, they each sought modern medical care for their problems, accepted the prescribed drugs, and Herb went under the knife. I, on the other hand, refused any help from modern medicine for my cancer, refused the drugs and surgery, and simply changed what I ate.

So here we are today, all three of us are aged 79 (Herb turned 79 on December 16, 2012, Ed turned 79 January 1, 2013 and my 79th birthday will be February 12, 2013). Herb and Ed are still going to doctors, still being treated with drugs for numerous physical problems, and living a restricted lifestyle.

But at the same age, I am in excellent health to the best of my knowledge, even though I experienced cancer in 1976 and a hemorrhagic stroke in 1991.

My stroke was not diet related, but rather the result of stress following a speaking tour in South Africa in 2001, when I delivered seven seminars in a week and was in the air 53 hours. Yet, once again, all medical help was refused. Instead, Rhonda nursed me back to health with The Hallelujah Recovery Diet. All symptoms were soon gone and to this day there are no lingering limitations either physically or mentally.

Does It Matter What We Eat?

All three of us, Herb, Ed, and I are the same age, and came from a similar gene pool (Caucasian). So what other variable can explain the difference in our physical bodies, abilities, and health at age 79? For me at least, it doesn’t take a lot of searching or a rocket scientist to learn the answer.

After experiencing cancer in 1976, I changed what I ate. I changed from the high meat, dairy, and refined sugar and flour diet of this world to what I call God’s Diet — the 100% plant-based diet God gave Adam to nourish his body in Genesis 1:29. Along with it, I began consuming large quantities of freshly extracted vegetable juices.

God’s Genesis 1:29 body is obviously the diet God designed for Adam’s physical body, and I believe all future human physical bodies. And friend, who would know better what the proper diet for mankind should be then the Creator of these physical bodies?

Did what we each ate following our physical problems make a difference in our recovery and future health? Absolutely – and here is the evidence:

Herb and Ed are still taking prescribed drugs, drugs they have been told they will have to take for the rest of their lives. And they each require regular trips to the doctor for check ups and evaluation of their deteriorating conditions.I do neither of these things and yet I am experiencing excellent health.

Why does a changed diet and lifestyle make such a difference? Let’s start by quoting a verse of Scripture in Ecclesiastes 12:1:

“Remember NOW thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.”

Today, as you read this, you may have physical problems, physical problems you have suffered with for years. You have probably been to the doctor for some of these problems, and even take drugs for them – and yet these physical problems persist.

Maybe you suffer from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or high triglycerides. Maybe it’s arthritis, diabetes, or constipation. Maybe you are carrying excess weight, or have been experiencing fatigue, mental fog, sleepless nights, or a host of other problems.

Do you realize that every one of these listed problems and most of the other problems people suffer with are simply diet and lifestyle related? Usually, very simply and quite quickly, these problems can be eliminated through a simple diet and lifestyle change.

I am now only one year from my 80th birthday, still experiencing excellent health, and I haven’t got an ache or pain in my body, with probably more energy, stamina, and endurance than I had as a 25-year-old. How can this be? Is it because God chose to shine good health down on me and not Herb and Ed, or could there be another reason? I believe it is the latter…

Have You Looked In The Mirror Lately?

Too many Christians look to God, the medical doctor, or drugs for their health and well being, when they need to be looking somewhere else – in the mirror.

Sadly, I look at people, some less than half my age, and they are already sick and tired, dragging through life, taking numerous prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and they can’t understand why God doesn’t answer their prayers for healing.

My friend, it is not God’s fault that you are suffering with physical problems! Most Christians today are looking to someone or something outside themselves – God, health insurance, doctors, drugs, etc., as the source for their health or for the removing of their physical problems.

But if we are going to get rid of these physical problems, we must stop looking outside ourselves, and start looking inward. Yes, in the mirror!

Sickness Is Almost Always A Matter Of Choice

Almost every physical problem being experienced today is caused by improper diet and lifestyle – what people place into their mouth and their failure to exercise!

If we want to be well, we must each realize that our health depends on us, (not on God, health insurance, the doctor, drugs, radiation, or surgery) and that the daily diet and lifestyle choices we make are what determine whether we live in sickness or in health.

The Bible puts it this way in Galatians 6:7:

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man (or woman) soweth, that shall he (or she) also reap.”

Sickness is almost always the result of sowing and reaping! For instance, people do not realize that every time they consume a food containing refined sugar, they are weakening their immune system a little further. Each serving of sugar causes it to malfunction a little more, causing their immune system to be less and less capable of protecting them from everything from the common cold to cancer.

White flour products are devoid of both nutrition and fiber! When we consume a product comprised of white flour, not only are we failing to receiving anything of nutritional value to nourish our physical body, we are also consuming a fiberless substance that causes constipation, along with other physical breakdown.

Most people today are consuming a diet almost totally devoid of fiber. Are you aware that there is no fiber to be found in anything of animal origin, or in white flour, refined grains, sugar, or table salt, the things most people consume daily? Most people fail to realize our only source of fiber is plant foods!

Nor do most people realize that the animal source foods they consume daily — both of flesh, egg, and dairy origin — are the primary cause of heart attacks, congestive heart failure, strokes, most cancers, colon and digestive problems, diabetes, osteoporosis, heartburn, acid stomach, and more.

There is nothing more dangerous a person can consume than animal source foods. It was for this reason and with this knowledge, that 37 years ago I stopped consuming anything that came from an animal and have continued to completely abstain from anything of animal origin, even cheese, to this current day.

What Can A Person Eat?

Believe it or not, there are as many tasty dishes and tasty treats available that are healthy, and that produce and protect health, as there are unhealthy ones.

The problem is that we have been programmed to eat the unhealthy foods, the foods that cause our bodies to malfunction and produce all manner of disease, both mentally and physically. God told us the foods He designed our bodies to be nourished with in Genesis 1:29.

If you are fortunate enough to have reached your current age, without suffering physical problems or breakdown, may I encourage you to:

“Remember NOW thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them:” (Ecclesiastes 12:1)

But if you have already been visited by physical breakdown and various physical ailments and want to get off that road of sickness and suffering, doctor visits and drugs, I am thrilled to be able to share with you another way, a better way found in God’s Word:

“Bless the Lord, o my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, o my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies; who satisfyeth thy mouth with good things so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalm 103:1-5)

In 1976, at the age of 42, I chose to allow God to “satisfy my mouth with good things”. Yes, I chose to satisfy my mouth with the very foods God told us we should eat in Genesis 1:29. As a result, my cancer was gone, and here I am 37 years later, nearly 80 years of age, still experiencing my “youth”!

Won’t you join me by making 2013 the healthiest year of your life? How about considering allowing God, no matter your age, to “satisfy your mouth with good things so that thy youth is renewed like the eagles”?

As we enter the New Year 2013, may I encourage you to start the New Year right by adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle!

Don’t you think it is time to give The Hallelujah Diet a try? And before you answer that question, how about taking stock of your physical and mental health and all the problems that old Standard American Diet (SAD) you have been eating may have brought you?

In fact, right now, take out a piece of paper and list all the physical and emotional symptoms you are currently suffering with – no fudging!

List every one of them! Do you ever experience a cold, the flu, headache, sore throat, upset stomach, constipation, or pimples? Do you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or high triglycerides? Do you suffer with fatigue, mental fog, arthritis, diabetes, acid stomach, or heartburn? Are you taking medications for anything? Wouldn’t you like to get rid of all those physical problems and medications?

You can improve your health — if you are willing to take the challenge — change your diet and lifestyle, and thereby make 2013 the healthiest year of your life.

    Thank you George. I needed to read that today to remind myself of the importance of avoiding sugar … Didn’t do too well with that over Christmas, but I’m determined to get back on track as from TODAY!

    Yes, a great reminder, but what we need is a buddy and most of all encouragement. Keeping to a really healthy diet is not so easy when restricted to one hudred dollars a week fin total for a family of two. I’d love to be able to achieve it on tthat amount. Is it possible.? Ukraine
