You’ve always wanted to change your life and follow a primarily raw diet, but you’ve also come up with plenty of reasons – also known as excuses – not to. Whether you’ve promised to start Monday, at the beginning of the new year or after your next birthday, it’s time to get out of this ever-lasting grave you keep digging deeper. When’s the best time to take control of your life and follow a plant-based diet? Today!

Here are a few reasons to stop making excuses and start your diet right now:

1. Reduced Risk of Chronic Conditions
Relying on processed foods to fuel your body is counterintuitive. Not only does it provide zero nutritional benefit, but it also increases your risk for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, stroke and more, according to the American Heart Association. Making healthy, wholesome choices reduces your chance of developing chronic conditions substantially.

2. Weight Loss
While improving your eating habits shouldn’t only be about losing weight, it’s a significant reason to go on a diet. Being overweight is linked to numerous health risks, such as the ones stated previously, as well as Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, liver disease, kidney disease, pregnancy complications and certain cancers, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

3. Increased Energy
A wholesome, balanced plant-based diet is loaded with essential vitamins and minerals that fuel your body properly and give you the energy you need to get through the day. Soda, sugary coffee and energy drinks – most commonly and wrongfully associated with increased energy – will give you a quick buzz, but end in a crash later on. Eliminate these beverages and rely on water, fresh juice and smoothies for a pick-me-up.

4. Improved Confidence
How do you feel after eating a greasy burger and pile of fries? You’re likely bloated, uncomfortable and regretful. Exchange that unhealthy meal for something more substantial, like a salad made of a bed of leafy greens and fresh chopped onions, tomatoes, cucumbers and radishes. Not only will you start to feel better about what you’re putting in your body, but you’ll look better too.

5. Overall Longevity
Living your life to its fullest is all about treating your body right, both physically and mentally. By making the move to a primarily raw, plant-based lifestyle, you’ll improve your mood, appearance, immune system and more, ultimately promoting longevity. Now’s the time to kick those bad habits to the curb and start living your life the way God intended for you.

  6. These are certainly good reasons to eat healthy: lose weight or maintain your ideal weight, avoid chronic health conditions, increased energy, self confidence, longevity.
I especially like the one about increased energy. It is miserable to want to go to bed or just lay on the couch after eating because you feel so tired or sleepy. Much better to have energy for the the things you want to do. Yes, a sugary caffeine drink or chocolate candy bar seems to give a pick up at first but causes a crash later.

  7. Timely reminder. We must take control of our lives and not allow “food” to control us. It’s difficult when we are travelling, but with a little effort it can be organised. Remember,, you are what you eat.

  8. It’s time to take a step forward and embrace a lifestyle change that will enable you to become healthier in the long run. Transition is sometimes challenging, but will become easier as time goes by, especially if you have a good support system with a friend or family member to encourage you and motivate you. Keeping things simple in the beginning can definitely make a lifestyle change less stressful.
