The paleo diet is similar to the Hallelujah Diet but the differences are game changers

Many chronic diseases have been linked to foods developed in the 20th century. But a diet of mostly plant foods, including the Hallelujah Diet, is shown to decrease risk of disease and cancer.

Because processed carbohydrates, added sugars and dairy products didn’t exist or certainly weren’t prevalent, our early ancestors consumed foods that optimized health. And we have much to learn from them.

Created in the 1970s by gastroenterologist Walter Voegtlin, the paleo diet, for example, has been reborn in recent years. The newfound popularity of the paleo diet can be largely attributed to its emphasis on plant-based foods that do not contain added sugars, processed ingredients, chemicals or sodium.

The paleo diet is based on what our early ancestors ate: mostly natural, organic foods including nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits. Also, because they were unable to digest dairy and dairy has negative health implications, the paleo diet avoids all dairy products, just like the Hallelujah Diet.

However, the paleo diet does include all natural, hormone-free meat and fish. And many nutritionists have criticized animal protein’s role in the diet because of its potential to diminish health. These critics of the paleo diet include nutrition experts at Hallelujah Diet who recommend essential supplements instead of meat and fish to provide the added protein and other nutrients that even the healthiest plant-based diet can’t fully provide.

What’s the Best Way to Get Essential Protein?

The biggest issue that arises when a plant-based diet is considered is the apparent lack of protein. While animal meat is the most abundant source of protein, it also has a direct linkage to causing chronic disease.

Plant-based foods are great sources of protein and they contain ingredients that are known to fight disease and cancers. Remember that early humans ate animal protein that was entirely grass-fed and hormone and chemical free, which is an unrealistic expectation for modern day animal protein.

In a chapter of his book, The Dark Side of Animal Protein, Dr. Joel Fuhrman uses the China-Oxford-Cornell Project. This project studied 65 different Chinese counties that had vastly different diets ranging from entirely vegetarian to mostly animal based. And this was Fuhrman’s primary source of comparison between consumption of plants and animals.

Fuhrman writes, “…as animal food consumption approached zero, cancer rates fell. Areas of the country with an extremely low consumption of animal food were virtually free of heart attacks and cancer.”

Additionally plant protein is extremely high in cancer fighting nutrients, and has been shown to dramatically reverse the effects of advanced stage degenerative diseases. Fuhrman writes, “…a significantly greater reduction of cancer and all-cause mortality (about 75 percent reduction) was related to being on a vegetarian diet for more that twenty years.”

Specific plant foods that are high in protein:

  • Lentils
  • Garbanzo beans
  • Cannellini beans
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Seaweed

  3. Sugar
    • The optimal diet is devoid of any added sugars that are often found in processed foods.

    • Honey is the sugar variety that is found in the diet, and should be added to food sparingly.

  1. If the halalujah diet is the way to eatand Palo is bad, then how did the early ancestors eat the halalujah diet workout taking these essential supplements you are talking about? Sounds like the difference between the halalujah diet and paleo diet is that the Paleo diet gives you everything you need and that you have to take essential supplements to get what you need if you eat the halalujah diet. How does that make sense? They didn’t have essential supplements to take 2000 years ago. Why would the perfect diet not give you what you need? You have to take supplements to make up for the defecient diet.

    • Unfortunately, we aren’t living in days like those of 2,000 years ago when the air, food and water were not polluted with 100s of toxins. The food was nutritionally dense from rich soils. Chemical fertilizers were not used to produce inferior crops. Man didn’t drink water with chlorine and fluoride in it that destroys the bacteria that produce our vitamin B12. Even many meat eaters are deficient in B12 and end of taking shots or supplements (in spite of their Paleo diet). Must of their animal source food is deficient in the omega 3s so they need supplements (even if they don’t recognize it).
      Their plant based foods are lacking nutrition due to growing conditions today and lack of rich topsoil. Even the meat eaters need something to supply the trace elements missing from what plant based foods they eat (they certainly don’t get the trace elements from meat.)

      While a whole food plant based diet is the perfect pattern, unfortunately we simply can’t produce foods that are nutrient dense as they were 100 years ago, let alone 2,000 years ago. There are voids we need to fill regardless of one’s dietary choices.

  2. I eat mostly vegetarian. Still like my fish occasionally. Nuts really give me gas, so as much as I love them, they are out. I do take a vegan protien in my morning shake. I am going to invest in your starter pack. I am concerned that you promote “soy”. I have a friend that is a chiropracter that used to be a chemist for the drug companies (before he saw the light–LOL) and “soy” does not break down in the digestive system and is literally toxic to the body except for fermented soy where the chemical structure is altered.
    I just happen to be highly allergic to soy. I am hoping you have enough info for me that I can eat healthy on a vegertairian diet even though I cannot do nuts (I guess there is a chemical in them that some people, like me, cannot break down) or soy. Thanks for listening.

    • Hallelujah Diet does not promote soy. I apologize that soy was listed by mistake in a recent article. There are many other good sources of protein on a plant based diet, for example: Beans, brussel sprouts, garlic, parsley, broccoli, cauliflower, leeks, horseradish, seeds, romaine lettuce, kale, collards, swiss chard, and many other foods.

    From all that I have read at Hallelujah Acres and heard from Paul & Ann Malkmus (60 day reclaim your health), soy products were to be avoided – including soy milk. Why the change now?

    Would love some advice. I have severe ostio. I eat mainly a vegan diet. A small amount of meat and some dairy…I exercise regularly and have taken your calcium supplement and have tried others as well. No drinking. My rheumatologist things I should take what she recommends. However, the things she has recommended, for some, have a lot of side effects. My blood report, my Dr. says, is that of a 20 yr. old.

    • We believe bones can be rebuilt. Bones have a certain turnover of old and new cells constantly being replaced. A proper diet is necessary with an abundance of calcium and magnesium, rich in green food, and optimal blood level of vitamin D3. Both weight bearing and resistance exercise are needed.
