Juicing Saved My Life

Juicing Saved My Life

In the Garden of Eden there were no juicers, but neither was there a need for one. In Garden times, soil nutrients had not yet been depleted and man’s physical body was not racked with physical breakdown. In Garden of Eden days, sending food through the digestive tract was plenty adequate to supply all of man’s nutritional needs. But today, because of the low nutrient value of our foods and the extensive repair needed in the average body, we need to get nutrients to the cellular level more rapidly and in greater quantities, and juicing accomplishes that.

When God created the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, He placed them in a garden called Eden and told them what was to be the fuel (food) they were to consume in order to properly nourish their physical bodies. God’s instructions are very clearly set forth in the Bible:
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb (VEGETABLE) bearing seed which is upon the face of the earth, and every tree, in the which is the FRUIT of a tree yielding seed: to you it shall be for FOOD (meat)." ~ Genesis 1:29
God’s plan for Adam and Eve was to forage for their food. They were to walk through God's garden, pluck these raw fruits and vegetables, and consume them in their natural, raw form in order to obtain the nutrients necessary to fuel their physical bodies. Later, man planted gardens and orchards and consumed the plant foods that grew there. It is interesting to note that even after the fall of Adam and Eve, after sin had entered the human race and they had been banished from the garden, man lived in health to an average age of 912 years for the next 1,700 years. There is not a single recorded instance of sickness — and all they ate was nutritious raw fruits and vegetables. When did this change? In Genesis, we learn that a great flood covered the land (See Genesis 7:19 and 7:24), destroying all garden foods. For what I believe were survival purposes, God allowed the flesh of the clean animals that were on the ark to be consumed. Following the flood, man also began to cook his food. It should also be noted that it was only after these two diet changes – the addition of animal flesh to the diet and the beginning of the cooking of food – that sickness entered the human race. With that as a little background on man’s nourishment, you may be wondering where the subject of this Health Tip – juicing – fits into a discussion on garden foods. Following is how I first learned about juicing along with what I personally experienced when I added raw vegetables and raw vegetable juices to my diet:

My Personal Experience with Juicing

In 1976, after being told I had colon cancer, I did not accept the traditional medical modalities of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery my mother had accepted after she had been diagnosed with colon cancer before me. Instead, I went searching for an alternative way of dealing with my cancer. The reason I did this was because at the time of mother’s death, I was convinced it was these medical treatments and not the cancer that had ultimately taken her life. It was at this time I turned to an evangelist in Texas by the name of Lester Roloff for help. Evangelist Roloff had been trying for years to get Christians, in general, and preachers, in particular, to change their eating habits, as a means of improving their health. He met with a lot of resistance.

Stop Being a Victim of SAD

When I turned to Brother Roloff for help, he discouraged me from going the traditional medical route my mother had pursued for her colon cancer, while at the same time encouraging me to do something as simple as change what I ate. He encouraged me to stop consuming the Standard American Diet (SAD). He urged me to reject the meat based, sugary-dessert-focused and almost completely cooked food diet I had been consuming the previous 42 years of my life. He said that what I was eating had been the cause of my cancer. In place of my old diet, he encouraged me to consume a diet consisting of predominantly raw fruits and vegetables, a diet similar to the diet God had given Adam and Eve in the garden in Genesis 1:29. Brother Roloff also encouraged me to get a juicer and to drink lots of vegetable juices. To this day I still run into healthy preachers to whom, like me, Brother Roloff gave a live-saving juicer. Overnight, I made the diet change, and almost immediately started to get well. Within weeks, without any help from a doctor or the use of any drugs, my rectal bleeding stopped. Within a year, not only had my baseball-sized tumor disappeared, so had all the other physical problems I was experiencing!

The Results of 40 Years of Juicing

Now let’s jump ahead nearly 40 years. I am now almost 80 years of age, and have been on a pure vegan diet with the abundant daily use of vegetable juices for over 37 years. What have been the results with regard to my physical health? I am happy to report that I have:
  • A 38-inch chest
  • A 32-inch waist
  • A weight of 144 pounds (at 5’9” in height)
  • Excellent overall health
  • The physical capacity to do almost anything I could do as a 20-year-old
  • A mind that is functioning better than it did when younger
  • More energy at the end of the day than the average person on the Standard American Diet wakes up with in the morning.
Daily juicing has served me well!

Why Juice Is Better

When God made His human creation, He placed within the body a digestive system that would allow us to process the raw fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts found in the garden. This digestive system was designed by God to take the raw, plant-sourced foods found in the Garden, and convert them into a form that would make them usable at the cellular level of our body as fuel and nourishment. Read what H. E. Kirschner, M.D., has to say about this digestive process in his book Live Food Juices:
"Why not just eat the raw vegetables? As we have indicated in the previous chapter, for optimum health you need far more than you could possibly eat. The stomach just couldn't handle that much bulk. Then, too, if modern research is correct, the power to break down the cellular structure of raw vegetables, and assimilate the precious elements they contain, even in the healthiest individual is only fractional — not more than 35%, and in the less healthy, down to 1%. "In the form of juice, these same individuals assimilate up to 92% of these elements. The juice of the plant, like the blood of the body, contains all the elements that build and nourish. It is a well-known fact that all foods must become liquid before they can be assimilated."
Now I realize that in the Garden of Eden there were no juicers, but neither was there a need for one.

The Juicing Effect

A juicer does much of the work of the digestive system (removing the fiber) before we put the food into our body. By removing the fiber, which has no nutritional value (it is only the carrier of the nutrients), we are putting only the part of the vegetable that contains the nutrients (the liquid part) into our body. By doing this, we eliminate the need for the food going through the digestive process. With the fiber removed, the nutrients can go almost intravenously to cellular level in mere minutes. As Dr. Kirschner explained, this process raises the percentage of nutrients reaching the cellular level from less than 35% when we eat the whole food to more than 90% when we drink the juice with fiber removed. Juicing is the key to the results people experience on The Hallelujah Diet. And this is one of the primary reasons that within one year or less, from the time a person makes the diet change that we teach here at Hallelujah Acres, over 90% of all physical, as well as even emotional, psychological, and depression problems, are usually gone. This “miracle” occurs because the body has within it not only the ability to rebuild itself when given the proper building materials, but also the ability to heal itself of almost anything that ails it. The self-healing mechanism was placed there by God at creation, and has been passed down to each of us through genetic coding... ...if we maintain it properly.

7 So-Called Foods to Avoid

If we want to get well, or stay well, the very first thing we must do is stop putting the toxic substances into our bodies that have been causing harm. These would include:
  1. All animal source foods (both flesh and dairy, including all cheese)
  2. Refined sugar
  3. Refined flour
  4. White table salt
  5. Trans-fats
  6. Hydrogenated oils
  7. Caffeine
These are the substances that cause most physical problems today. But when we start putting into our bodies the raw building materials the Lord designed our bodies to use as fuel, especially in the form of raw vegetable juices, the miracle usually follows. Don’t be concerned about not getting enough fiber on The Hallelujah Diet because there is so much juicing. We still obtain loads of fiber from the various vegetables, fruits, seeds, and nuts we consume in their whole, raw form.

Ounces Not Pounds

It takes approximately one pound of raw vegetables to make an eight-ounce glass of vegetable juice. But that eight-ounce glass of raw vegetable juice mid-morning and mid- afternoon gives the body not only superior nutrition, but also incredible energy, as well as satisfying hunger. The problem is that it would be very difficult for a person (and very time consuming) to eat a whole pound of raw vegetables three times a day. And even if you did, you would lose over 65% of the nutrients in the digestive process. Drink an eight-ounce glass of raw vegetable juice, however, and you gain the nutrients contained in a whole pound of raw veggies — with over 90% of the nutrients going straight to your cellular level!

Juicing vs. Cancer

At the Gerson Hospital in Mexico, they are healing terminal cancers with juice. Patients drink eight 8-ounce glasses of carrot juice per day and four 8-ounce glasses of green juices from organically grown vegetables, along with a vegetarian diet. The results have been truly miraculous. It was one to two quarts of raw vegetable juices per day in 1976 that gave me my “miracle.” These juices helped my body restore itself to health and they've been a major part of my daily routine ever since.

Think Like a Bunny

There is absolutely no substitute for freshly extracted vegetable juice. And you cannot buy it in a can or bottle – it must be freshly extracted to obtain its benefits. Start with carrot juice; it’s delicious and nutritious. Rhonda and I juice 25 pounds of carrots weekly along with beets, celery, and added greens! The most economical way to buy carrots is in 25-pound bags, which will fit in most refrigerators. If kept sealed, they will stay fresh for a month. Tip: If you live in the United States, it is important that the carrots be grown in California, because California carrots are grown in mineral-rich soils. It is the trace minerals that make carrots sweet.

Glycemic Index Concerns

Many caution the drinking of straight carrot juice because of its high glycemic index numbers. We had our Research Director, Dr. Michael Donaldson, do some research and laboratory testing regarding this. His research revealed that a single slice of whole wheat bread or a single baked potato produced a significantly higher glycemic reading than a 12-oz glass of freshly extracted carrot juice. And we only recommend an 8-oz serving. However, we do suggest that for most people it would probably be best if they temper the sugar content of carrot juice by diluting up to 30%-50% of the volume with juices from other vegetables including cucumber, celery, spinach, kale, or other vegetables.

Blenders vs. Juicers

It is important to note that nutrients are released from our foods only when the cell structure has been broken open by chewing or blending or juicing. Most people do not realize that chewing your vegetables and sending the food through the digestive tract provides the least amount of nourishment from the foods eaten! If you have a juicer, try to add at least two glasses of fresh vegetable juice to your diet each day, and if you don't have a juicer, you might consider purchasing one. Blenders are not capable of producing vegetable juice – they blend together the juice and fibers of the vegetable, leaving the fiber in the juice. This defeats the very purpose of juicing. However, blenders are wonderful for our morning green smoothies, and may be used to make a blended vegetable salad, as they increase the nutrients reaching cellular level many fold compared to chewing raw vegetables. Blending the vegetables in a blender provides the second greatest amount of nutrients reaching cellular level. But it is from juicing we obtain the greatest nutrient value, and thus juicing becomes the most powerful source of nutrition known to mankind. Supplements cannot provide the body with what freshly extracted vegetable juices can!

Tips for Choosing a Juicer

All juicers can juice, but the actual process of extracting the juice and the end result is always different. Different juicers have different working steps, different time needed for juicing, different effectiveness with fruits and vegetables and different juices produced. Juicers vary in price and performance. A spinning basket juicer is certainly better than nothing if that is all one can afford, but is inferior to other types, and not recommend for serious physical problems. I recommend: The Norwalk is very expensive – over $2,000 – but well worth the investment, especially if you are dealing with a serious physical problem.

Vegetable Juice ... Made Better

At Hallelujah Acres, we suggest that those who have no known physical problems and just want to maintain their excellent state of health consume two to three 8-oz servings of vegetable juices daily, plus three servings of BarleyMax (a dehydrated, fiber-free, and enzymatically alive juice powder from young barley grass). On the Hallelujah Recovery Diet, which would be for someone dealing with a serious physical problem like cancer, we suggest six servings of vegetable juices daily, plus six servings of BarleyMax. Drinking fruit juices is discouraged. Eating your fruits and juicing your vegetables is a better way to go, as there is too much concentrated natural sugar in fruit juices and this natural sugar can cause problems. And with regard to fruit, it is recommended that no more than 15% of the daily diet be comprised of fruit. If a person is dealing with yeast problems, high or low blood sugar problems, they should eliminate all fruit intake and carrot juice until the problem is resolved. And please do not assume from all this praise for the benefit of freshly extracted juice that there is equal value to be gained from drinking store-bought frozen, canned or bottled juice. There is not! Many natural nutrients and certainly all enzymes are destroyed during the pasteurization process (no matter what "kind" of pasteurization they claim) because everything in it that was once alive – friendly bacteria as well as nutrients – has been destroyed to prevent spoilage to prolong its shelf life.

Concluding Thoughts

A pure vegan diet that is high in raw fruits and vegetables – along with an abundance of freshly extracted raw vegetable juices – will go a long way in providing the nutrition our bodies need to build and regenerate and maintain our living cells, while also helping to efficiently eliminate waste from the body. I have found a diet comprised of approximately 85% raw and 15% cooked to be ideal. Slight variations in these percentages from day to day are not important. What is important is to realize that it is not the raw foods and juices themselves that do the healing. What they do is provide the body with concentrated building materials the body needs in order to rebuild and strengthen its immune system and thus heal itself. Self-healing is built into each of us, and when we bring conditions conducive to healing about within the body, the body will almost always do what it was designed by God to do, and that is literally heal itself! The use of nutrients to enhance our God-given capability of self-healing has proven to be an extremely effective means of helping our body to prevent as well as heal a wide variety of ailments. Here at Hallelujah Acres, we have received literally tens of thousands of testimonies from folks who adopted The Hallelujah Diet, reporting recovery from over 170 different physical problems, after adopting the diet we teach. Drugs are chemicals, and these chemicals are foreign and toxic substances to the body. What they do is cover up or mask the symptoms of ill health, rather than providing the body with the nutrients necessary for the body to heal itself and produce wellness. Once we understand the theory and experience the reality of using nutrition to help our body maximize its own self-healing capabilities, we will see this is the exact opposite approach of drugs.

My Health Tip for You

Once we realize that all healing is self-healing, we will understand the importance of providing the body with the building materials it needs to heal itself. And if we opt for promoting self-healing through nutrition, experience shows that drinking the freshly-extracted juice of raw vegetables is the most efficient way to obtaining this nutrition. So my tip is a simple one: make fresh vegetable juice a vital part of your diet if you are serious about obtaining or maintaining a healthy body. Get a good juicer or find a local health food store or market that offers fresh vegetable juice, extracted on-site. Your body will thank you for the nutrition by healing itself and keeping itself strong.
Next week, the good Lord willing and if the creeks don’t rise too high, we will return with another exciting issue of the Hallelujah Acres Health Tip. Trust you will join us and that you will share these Health Tips with friends and loved ones.
