Gout – A Natural Solution

As I said in last week’s Health Tip, my articles on “Arthritis” generated a lot of mail. Included in that mail were a number of letters regarding “Gout” which is a form of arthritis. I will share a few of those letters below. Here’s the first one:

“Rev. Malkmus, my mother has gout. But the doctor doesn’t want her on any more drugs because of her kidney problems. Can you tell us how to get rid of gout for good and without drugs? Mom’s gout will go away for a week or two and then it is back with a vengeance. Any info you could provide would be appreciated.”
Trudy Y.

What Is Gout?

“Gout is a medical condition usually characterized by recurrent attacks of acute inflammatory arthritis—a red, tender, hot, swollen joint. The metatarsal-phalangeal joint at the base of the big toe is the most commonly affected. Gout is caused by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood which crystallize and are deposited in joints, tendons, and surrounding tissues.” – Wikipedia

Two Bible verses I want to bring to our attention before we proceed. The first one is found in Galatians 6:7 and reads: Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” And the second is: “The curse causeless shall not come” (Proverbs 26:2).

What can we learn about gout from these two verses? (1) Gout is something we have control over and (2) Gout has a CAUSE.

What Causes Gout?

In Health Tip #707 (Arthritis – A Natural Approach), this editor wrote some words that have great application concerning the subject of gout, because gout is a form of arthritis:

Putting foods into our beautiful God made bodies that God never intended to enter it, as well as a failure to properly exercise the body, is the cause of most physical problems, including arthritis, and the pain associated with it. Arthritic pain is simply a warning signal coming from within the body, warning of a breakdown inside our body.

When we try to eliminate that arthritic pain and swelling through the use of toxic drugs, rather than trying to determine and eliminate the CAUSE, almost always leads to a worsening of the condition. How so?

When a person fails to eliminate the CAUSE of the problem, and continues to consume the very foods CAUSING the problem, the condition continues to deteriorate no matter how many drugs are administered.

No matter how many pain-killing drugs the doctor prescribes, the condition continues to worsen, often resulting in ever greater pain and debilitation, for which increasing amounts of drugs are prescribed. This is the “world’s wisdom” concerning arthritis, which too often leads to a wheelchair.

Arthritis is a matter of CHOICE! By our food CHOICES, we can CHOOSE to eat in a manner that will prevent arthritis, or in a way that will potentially CAUSE arthritis.

If a person is already experiencing arthritis, that person can CHOOSE to eat foods that will in most instances not only improve the condition, but usually eliminate the problem, or they can CHOOSE to continue to eat in a way that will exacerbate the problem.

The connection between diet and arthritis is crystal clear.

Diets very low in saturated fats, low in protein, high in fiber, and without cholesterol are best for the prevention of arthritis, while being of extreme importance in the elimination of the disease.

The Standard American Diet

The Standard American Diet (SAD) is very high in saturated fats, very high in protein, extremely low in fiber, and loaded with cholesterol. In addition, the average American fails to exercise their body sufficiently.

Thus, the SAD is a prescription for arthritis and gout, and the reason so many people in America suffer with arthritis today.

By contrast, The Hallelujah Diet is very low in saturated fats, low in protein, extremely high in fiber, contains zero cholesterol, and is high in exercise.

This is the reason that persons with gout who switch to The Hallelujah Diet usually see their condition either significantly improve or simply disappear altogether.

The cause and solution to arthritis and gout is found in the following Bible verse:

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)

Sow the SAD diet, reap arthritis and gout – sow The Hallelujah Diet, reap the elimination of arthritis and gout, and a pain-free life.

Here’s The Second Letter…

“I have gout in both my big toes. Both my toes seem to have sharp crystals that hurt if I bend them too much. I have been doing mostly The Hallelujah Diet for four years. Is there anything more I can do for my toes?”
Bharti H.

This is a most interesting letter because Bharti, if on the Hallelujah Diet, would have consumed no animal products for the past four years. Animal products are the primary cause of gout.

So a little research is necessary to figure out why a person who had already eliminated animal foods would still be suffering.

Uric Acid Causes Gout

Most people understand that animal products are high in uric acid. But few people realize that another source of uric acid is FRUCTOSE, a form of sugar found in high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), table sugar and believe it or not most fruits and especially fruit juices.

In Dr. Johnson’s book titled “The Sugar Fix” we learn “If you give animals fructose, they develop diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and fatty liver.” From Dr. Johnson’s book we also learn that “Fructose typically generates uric acid within minutes of ingestion.”

If you are consuming a diet that has already eliminated all animal source foods, and are still suffering from arthritis or gout, hopefully this information will put you on a path to finding the culprit — and claiming victory over pain and suffering.

EDITOR NOTE: The fact that fructose causes uric acid deserves an article on its own. Watch for an expanded article on this subject in a future issue of the Hallelujah Health Tip.

Gout is most common in men because of drinking too much alcohol. When uric acid levels in your blood are too high, the uric acid may form hard crystals in your joints. Remedies like ginger root, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and cherries. Also, avoid eating organ meats or fish that high in chemicals called purines.
