Often, they are situational, but sometimes cravings are your body’s way of trying to tell you something. The good news is that if you want to stay strong and refrain from giving in to those hankerings, there are natural means of doing so.

The next time that bag of potato chips seems to be calling your name, consider these strategies:

Opt for Spices and Herbs
You may think that satisfying that sugar craving with a small piece of candy every now and then isn’t doing any harm. However, refined sugar can negatively impact your blood pressure, metabolism and immune system. Rather than temporarily pleasing that sweet tooth, consider a more permanent and convenient solution such as the herbs and spices found right in your kitchen.

You can add this spice to your coffee or tea, whip up a tasty raw cinnamon dessert or even sprinkle it over your sweet potatoes. Get Up and Move
When a craving for sugar, sweets, fatty or processed food hits, it can be overpowering. At times, no matter how much you try to overcome that urge to reach for a chocolate bar, it just won’t go away. The best thing to do when this happens is to get up and move. Go outside, talk a walk through the park or distract yourself in another big way. By removing all the toxins from your body, it has the chance to start fresh. As CNN explained, going cold turkey is the most effect way to eliminate unhealthy foods from your diet, especially sugar. The first two to three days will typically be the hardest. After that, the cravings will likely fade and saying no will become easier and easier.

  3. These are all excellent ideas for overcoming cravings. I especially like the one that says remove food with white processed sugar from your house. If it is not available, you won’t be tempted by it.

    This was a great blog. Thank you for the information on how to deal with the cravings. It is great to know we can replace with healthy foods. I have to agree with doing a cleanse and then start with adding the healthy choices of food.

  5. Thank you for giving us practical advice on how to get past those inevitable cravings that usually happen any time we transition to a more healthy lifestyle. Making sure to keep healthy options on hand is one of the key things to remember. It usually does get easier as time goes by. Our bodies eventually become accustomed to the healthier foods as our tastes change. Then the great part happens when our bodies begin to crave the healthy things!!! Go figure!

  7. We are all tempted to eat foods that are not good for us, especially around the holidays. Sometimes it is because foods we ate in the past remind us of happy times such as parties, picnics and family gatherings. We want to relive the positive experience by eating the same food. I find it helpful to use new recipes with health promoting ingredients that taste great. When I’m excited about a new delicious food, I don’t miss the old one.
