Being Healthy Is A Choice… How Will YOU Choose?

Many in the Christian community believe that God governs everything that happens in their lives, including whether we get sick or remain in health. Some even believe that our time of death is totally controlled by God and that there is nothing we can do to change the inevitable!

I personally reject that kind of thinking because my Bible tells me that God wants us to “be in health”! Read what the Bible tells us regarding this subject :

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth!”
~ 3 John 1:2

God wants us, “above all things,” to be as well in our physical bodies as we are in our spiritual souls. So how can we say when sickness comes our way that the sickness we are experiencing is “God’s will?

I have been a Christian for over 55 years, and during those years, have come in contact with people who sadly accepted sickness as God’s will for their lives. But I tell you, my friends, if we do not prosper and are not in good health, it is not God’s fault.

Good Health is Your Choice, Not God’s Will

In the book of Deuteronomy, God told the Israelites that they had a choice to make concerning their future:

“And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse . . . and shalt return unto the Lord thy God, and shalt obey his voice . . . that then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity and have compassion upon thee . . . and bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed . . . and He will do thee good”
Deuteronomy 30:1-5

“But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land . . .”
~ Deuteronomy 30:17-18

After He had given the Israelites the above choices, God offers His people an opportunity to choose, a choice that would affect their future destiny:

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”
~ Deuteronomy 30:19

We, Too, Have a Choice

Whether we “be in health” or whether we live in sickness is almost totally in our own hands and under our control.

I believe that just as God gave the Israelites an opportunity to choose their future, today, in the 21st century in which we live, we too have choices to make that will affect our future, especially concerning our health.

In my seminars, I will often say, “The next time you get sick, don’t go running to the doctor and ask him to fix you, or even to God and ask Him to heal you – but rather run for the bathroom, turn on the light, look yourself full in the mirror, and ask this question:

“What did I do to create this physical problem?”

The Blame Game

My dear friend, we live in a society that is always trying to blame sickness on someone or something else. Some people even blame God for their sickness. When I was told I had colon cancer nearly 40 years ago, the doctors told me I had cancer because my mother had colon cancer before me, and that it was in my genes. They said that my cancer wasn’t my fault; I had inherited it.

Have you not noticed that more and more of the physical problems being experienced these days are blamed on bad genes? In other words, our sickness is not our fault! Or we are told that it was a germ, or a virus, or some bad bacteria that chose to attack us and we are just the innocent victims.

We are constantly being led to believe that sickness is not our fault.

I don’t believe that we are the innocent victims in most of life’s circumstances.  Nor do I accept the rationale that we are not responsible for the diseases that plague us.

Rather, I believe that life is a series of choices, and that almost everything that happens to us, especially concerning our health, and even the time of our death is the result of the choices we make.

The Consequences of Our Actions

Listen to what God says in:

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
~ Galatians 6:7

Whether we experience sickness or health usually depends on this irrefutable law of sowing and reaping! If we want health, we can almost always experience that health that we so desire if we will but sow the seeds that produce health!

The problem is that too many people who say they want health are sowing seeds that will produce sickness with almost every mouthful of food they consume or beverage they drink.

How God Intended Us to Live in Health

I believe man is a direct and perfect creation of God, not the result of some evolutionary hypothesis!

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
~ Psalm 139:14

In fact, my Bible even tells me how God created man:

“. . . . the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
~ Genesis 2:7

My Bible also tells me that after God had created Adam, He placed His first human creation in an idllyic garden filled with the food Adam was to eat:

“AND GOD SAID, behold, I have given you every herb (VEGETABLE) bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth and every tree in the which is the FRUIT of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for FOOD (meat).
~ Genesis 1:29

Satan’s Temptation

In Genesis we learn that Eve was tempted by Satan:

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, yea hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
~ Genesis 3:1 (read the entire 3rd chapter for context)

Satan’s temptation led Eve to choose to reject God’s instructions and partake of the forbidden fruit, ignoring what He said she and Adam should eat. Eve then offered that same forbidden fruit to her husband, Adam, and he, too, chose to eat it.

As a result of the choices they each made, both Adam and Eve suffered horrible consequences.

Satan Is Still Trying to Tempt Us

Satan’s first and primary goal is to keep someone from choosing God’s Son, Jesus Christ, as their personal Saviour.

If Satan fails in his attempt to prevent someone from becoming a Christian, his next objective is to destroy the physical body of the believer, or at least cause it to so malfunction, so that a person cannot effectively serve the Lord and fulfill the ministry God has given that person.

In Scripture, we find God literally begging Christians to present their bodies to Him:

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world . . .”
~ Roman’s 12:1-2

Elsewhere in the Bible, God again challenges believers with these words:

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit which are God’s”
~ 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

You’ve just read what the Bible has to say about Adam and Eve and their choice to disobey God in their food choices and how their bad choices caused sin to enter this world.

Their choices also caused them to be separated from God, and we know this separation of man from God was passed on to all people, and thus we are all born sinners.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”
~ Romans 5:12

Then God provided man a means of reconciliation by sending His only Son, Jesus, who makes full payment for man’s sin, through the shedding of His own blood on Calvary’s cross. As a result of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, reconciliation is today offered to all mankind.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
~ Romans 5:8

“For God hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
~ 2 Corinthians 5:21

“But as many as received him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
~ John 1:12

“And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life’ and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.”
~ 1 John 5:11, 13

Don’t Choose Satan’s Alternative Diet

Have you ever heard of the “SAD” Diet? It doesn’t just stand for the standard American diet; it also stands for Satan’s Alternative Diet! This SAD diet is comprised almost completely of things that cannot be found in God’s Genesis 1:29 diet, and this SAD diet is the cause of almost every physical problem (other than accidents) man experiences during his lifetime.

When a person chooses to reject Satan’s Diet and chooses instead to consume God’s Genesis 1:29 diet, that person almost always sees their physical problems simply disappear, and they don’t get sick anymore.

Nearly 40 years ago, after having eaten the SAD diet for 42 years of my life and experienced all the horrible consequences of consuming such a diet — culminating in colon cancer — I made the choice to change my diet to the diet God gave Adam in Genesis 1:29.

In 1976, after a colon cancer diagnosis, I rejected Satan’s and the world’s SAD diet and started eating the foods God said we should eat in Genesis 1:29.

The result?

All my physical problems went away, and except for that stroke I experienced in 2001 due to stress, not diet, I have not had as much as a cold, the flu, sore throat, or upset stomach in over 37 years.

Will you, dear friends, after reading these words, choose health as I did? Or will you choose to let Satan’s Alternative Diet keep you separated from God and the health He wants you to have?

The choice is yours, and I urge you to choose wisely.
