I Have Cancer, What Should I Eat?

As we work with people who are sick with cancer there is a common thread we have been hearing:

“I am afraid to eat anything that may cause my cancer to grow, so I just don’t eat!”

We met a man in Nigeria who had an elevated PSA and was told he had prostate cancer. In all of his reading, he knew that certain foods would cause his cancer to grow. Sadly, he was uncertain what to eat, so he just stopped eating. He said he just ate our Survival Bars, because he read that Rev. Malkmus ate them.

Recently, we met a lady who had been fighting breast cancer for the last three years. Although she knew of the importance of eliminate processed foods, she too, was unsure of exactly what to eat so she wasn’t eating much.

This repeated conversation is what led Ann to write the Unravel The Mystery Cancer Book. If a person with cancer doesn’t consume the right foods in abundance they can soon find themselves in a vulnerable situation.

We have devoted our lives to helping people create stronger immune systems so their bodies can withstand and fight off various types of illness and disease. Nutrition is the only thing that will give the body what it needs to fight the disease and regain health. Severe malnutrition and weight loss play a role in at least one in five cancer deaths.  About half of all cancer patients eventually suffer serious weight loss and malnutrition, a wasting syndrome called “cachexia” where they don’t just lose excess fat but vital muscle. A healthy person’s body adjusts when it doesn’t get enough calories, slowing metabolism to conserve nutrients. A person who has cancer doesn’t make that adjustment and their metabolism may even speed up. Absorption and assimilation of proteins, carbohydrates and fats in people with cancer is compromised.

The National Cancer Institute estimates cachexia (loss of weight, muscle atrophy, fatigue, weakness, and significant loss of appetite) is the immediate cause of death for at least 20 percent of people with cancer although advanced cancer might have eventually claimed many of them.

We believe that flooding the body with nutrition from the start can prevent not only cachexia, but can create such a strong immune system that it will empower the body to fight the valiant battle against the cancer resulting in the healing of the body. Isn’t it amazing the body God designed and gave us is capable of healing itself when we nourish it properly!

The quality of life for someone with cancer who is consuming large amounts of daily freshly extracted vegetable juices and lots of fresh vegetables and leafy greens, whether in salads or blended into pureed salads, is likely to include less pain, quicker recovery time, and improved outlook in health and life.

If the cancer steals your appetite and you have nausea then small amounts, even as small as tablespoons filled with freshly extracted vegetable juices can give great relief. Dehydration is just as deadly as cancer. Consistently providing small amounts of juices will help the body stay hydrated, and provide the nourishment needed without exacerbating nausea.     This is fantastic info .. The book sounds great, but while waiting for it to come what types of vegies should be juiced for optimal nutrition and how many per day .. Carrot,beetroot, and green barley ?? Are the freeze dried powdered form ok ?? They seem to be organic when it’s difficult to source the volume of quality produce to keep up with the volume required

      We recommend juicing 2/3 carrots with 1/3 Greens. Greens could be spinach, kale, collards, cucumbers, etc. Our BarleyMax, Carrot Juice Max, and BeetMax are all very nutritious to use.

    It seems there is controversy over healthy oils. There are many in the area of plant based eating who use them and those who pretty much ban nuts and oils. I would like to hear more about if eliminating oil and nuts is more beneficial to our health.

      In general we need healthy minimally processed fats in our diet. Most of us get plenty of omega 6s from our diet from plants (leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, organic whole grains) but often are deficient in omega 3s (flax seed/oil, chia seed, walnuts). About a century ago we consumed a ration of about 2 to 1 omega 6 to omega 3. Today, most folks get about 30 to 1 omega 6 to omega 3s. While both are essential, the ratio is way out of balance. Excess omega 6 create inflammation (an underlying issue in most chronic diseases) while omega 3s are anti-inflammatory and cardio protective. The long chain component – DHA of omega 3s is not readily available dietary wise and many folks convert the short chain omega 3s to DHA inefficiently, thus it is most beneficial for us to consider supplemental DHA from a clean fish oil like the Pharmax fish oil.

      When battling cancer we want to limit the fats from all sources as much as possible but insure we are getting the omega 3s.

        Christy, I was told about Hallelujah Diet by a Naturopath Doctor. She gave me wonderful advise and I was diagnosis with H Pylori and Precancerous Metaplasia. I do not want to take the antibiotics (It 3), but all of the doctors say take them but I can take my probiotics with them. Can I also take the Barley Max and garlic pills and flax seed oil? I was misdiagnosis with Diverticulosis for 22 years until May 8th when this new doctor did a endoscopy on me and got the results. I don’t take meds unless I really have too. I have always taken herbs and tried to eat the proper things. Thanks in advance Jay T. Female

        • Jay,
          We cannot offer personal advice but in general, probiotics are wise to use when on antibiotics to help offset the damage to the friendly bacteria. Probioitcs should be taken about 2 hours away from the time antibiotics are used and continues for the duration of antibiotics and for about 4 to 6 weeks beyond. I know of no reason the other supplements/compliments mentioned could not be used with good benefit.

      Vitamin C has a fantastic track record in assisting the body in overcoming a host of acute and chronic issues. It is an essential nutrient derived from foods but often not in sufficient amounts. Various forms of vitamin C are utilized in providing support – powders, tablets and capsules (sodium ascorbate, ascorbic acid, etc), Intravenous infusion, and Liposomal encapsulated vitamin C. All three can be very beneficial in supporting the body’s healing with cancer or other chronic issues. It appears that liposomal encapsulated vitamin C is the one of the most beneficial and affordable way to get the most from vitamin C with the gastrointestinal challenges often experienced with mega grams of the powders or tablets when aggressive supplementation is desired. Time-released vitamin C can be a good way to benefit from typical oral vitamin C supplementation.

  6. If you are on cancer recovery diet and traveling can HA survival bars be used? I will have little access to organic foods. Smoothies and barley max. Any other suggestions appreciated.

      No I would not recommend that due to the natural sugars and fats. I would take the BarleyMax capsules as they are easier when you travel. Do you have a personal blender? Those are smaller and easier to take while traveling. Then you could even do a blended salad or smoothie easier. Super Foods (plain) would be great to put in that. If you cannot find organic, then I would use the fresh veggies I could find and wash them really well. I highly recommend the book Unravel The Mystery A Simple Effective Approach To Beat Cancer by Ann Malkmus.
