Can You Still Get MSG If You Don’t Eat Packaged Foods?

Everyone is aware of the dangers of MSG, a known carcinogen, endocrine disrupter and killer of brain cells, which may also be linked to the development of cardiac problems, kidney problems, neurological disorders, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Lou Gehrig’s disease.  MSG is added to food to enhance its flavor, so you can imagine its abundance in the American food supply.

So, despite the fact that there still are no truth in labeling laws, you will rarely ever see the word MSG on food labels.  However, if you are concerned about your health, you may want to check out the table below.  It has been said that a rose by any other name is still a rose.  Well, MSG by all of these other names is still MSG.  Monosodium Glutamate is not a food product.  It is a neurotoxin and carcinogen that has taken the precious quality of life from more people than you can imagine.  If you see any of these names on a label of something you were going to eat, place it back on the shelf.  It is not a food; it is a poison!  Sadly, as much as we like to go out to dinner, we must always be aware that this toxin is lurking in the jars and canisters in the restaurant kitchen.  Few “whole food” restaurants are around so the next time you want take out or a nice dinner, consider going to the grocery store, buying the ingredients, preparing your own meal and having it out on the deck.  Fresh air, good food, and saves years on your health!

  1. If one eats foods labeled “organic” (tofu, balsamic vinegar, barley malt, etc.), do you consider these free from MSG?

  2. how do we keep track of all of this….especially for our children and grandchildren….as hard as I try….I carry a list in my purse when I shop but it’s so difficult…usually, if I can pronounce it I try not to buy it….just hard

    • If it has any kind of glutamate in it, avoid it. Also any modified food starch or protein or yeast. That’s a good start. Processed foods will contain 5-6 of these kinds of ingredients that when added up well exceed the 95% level required to be labelled msg ac/to our food safety laws.

      Watch seasonings at restaurants. Ask what kind of seasoning they use, when you order.

    Does this mean that foods we ferment, like sauerkraut, has msg in them?
