The Consequences of Obesity

Drastic changes in physical appearance, commonly followed by negative mental impact and lost confidence, is often associated with being overweight. Unfortunately, that's not all that comes with neglecting to maintain a healthy weight for your body type – your risk for many diseases, conditions and other serious health problems heightens when you're obese. This can negatively affect your everyday life, and can ultimately reduce overall wellness and longevity.

With more than one-third of the entire country reportedly being obese – according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – it's critical that more people understand just how harmful carrying around excess body weight can be, and why it's never too late to take back control of their well-being and follow healthier habits that lead them to live long, fulfilling lives, just as God intended for them.

Devastating Consequences of Obesity
The following conditions and diseases may impact your life if you are, or become, obese.

High blood pressure – Obesity may cause your body to resist insulin, the hormone that controls blood sugar.

High LDL cholesterol – Eating foods with excess saturated fats (meat and dairy products) raises bad cholesterol levels.

Type 2 diabetes – Because obesity can make the body resistant to insulin, you may develop Type 2 diabetes.

Coronary heart disease – High blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as diabetes, are all risk factors for coronary heart disease.

Stroke – Narrowed or clogged arteries caused by eating excess fats from meat and dairy products lead to high blood pressure and cholesterol, which can lead to stroke.

Gallbladder disease – According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, obesity increases cholesterol in bile, which causes stones to form in the gallbladder.

Sleep apnea – Excess weight can cause a blockage in the airway between the throat, thus leading to sleep apnea.

Certain cancers – Breast, colon, kidney, gallbladder, liver and endometrial cancers can occur as a result of obesity.

Osteoarthritis – Excess body weight puts more pressure on your joints than your body can handle, often leading to osteoarthritis.

Depression – The physical appearance that comes with being obese may cause you to feel low self-esteem or confidence, which can lead to increased feelings of depression and anxiety.

Body pain – When your body is forced to lift excess weight on a daily basis, you may be more likely to feel muscle aches, sprains, cramps and other random pain.

Poor life quality – Low self-esteem accompanied by your risk for developing multiple chronic conditions over time may leave you feeling less satisfied by life.

Death – All diseases, cancers and conditions linked to obesity can cause early mortality. The CDC reports that obesity-related conditions, such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes, are some of the main causes of preventable death.

  1. This article has a great eye opener for some. I have heard that obesity could cause a lot of problems. Acts 1:8 reminds us that we are to be witnesses for other people. People look for us to be models of the Christian faith. We ought to desire to live our lives in a way that represents our faith well. Taking care of our health is one way that we can be a good witness. Our Body is God’s Temple and for Us to Care For. Enjoyed reading this article.

    • Thanks Annette. In case anyone wants to get started or recommit:
Hallelujah Diet has a guide called “Living the Hallelujah Diet”. It is a free magazine. Anyone in the 50 US states is welcome to call 1-800-915-9355 to give their address. Hours are M-F 8am-6pm and Sat. 9am-4pm EST. Thank you so much for your interest.
There is also a “Get Started Kit” that contains a DVD explaining how to do the diet, and a recipe book. It also includes at 4.2 oz container of BarleyMax and an 8.5 oz. container of Fiber Cleanse. The cost is $49.95.
For those really serious about getting started on the Hallelujah Diet, consider getting out that juicer stuffed in some closet somewhere or get yourself the best juicer you can. The GreenStar is excellent. I LOVE it! If you are on a budget, then the NuWave is available. Since you will be drinking fresh juice daily, I suggest making sure you get a juicer you love!
If you are lacking inspiration, the book “God’s Way to Ultimate Health” will help fire you up. If you own this book and have not read it in a while, why not reread it?
If you do try the diet, I urge you to give it your all. I recently read a blog post where a lady said she went vegan and after 9 months, her allergies went away. IT TOOK 9 MONTHS! I believe the more faithful and diligent we are, the more our body responds. If you have never tried a vegan diet that is mostly raw, why not give it a try? It is DEFINITELY LIFE-CHANGING! Going against the flow is never easy. But many times, the rewards are well worth it. Maybe it is not for you, or you don’t have to do it forever, but you won’t know until you try.

  2. It has just been discovered by doctors working with fecal replanting in CDIF cases that donors that are skinny produce patients that become skinny and donors who are obese produce recipients that are obese though not previously. So, weight and probiotics have a new link. A good probiotic is needed and if it does not help go to a different strain. Kimchi starting in Korea is a good place to start, also parasite cleanse. Gallbladder cleanse is always good for your health. God Bless.

  3. Thank you for the eye opening article, I do believe it is important to maintain a healthy weight. I have seen to many times were our weight effects not only our health but also our mental state of mind. Watch what you eat! The Hallelujah Diet is a healthy life style change.
