Is Fluoride Dangerous to Your Overall Health?

For many years, we have been told that fluoride is an important element to strengthen the teeth and prevent dental problems. Advertisements for toothpaste and other oral hygiene products claim that fluoride should be used daily to care for your teeth. Some cities even add fluoride to the tap water, to ensure that the general population is getting it on a regular basis.

Fluoride and Dental Health
With all the recommended uses of fluoride, it is easy to assume that the United States has outstanding dental health. But, the truth is just the opposite: despite the use of fluoride in common dental products, many people still experience dental problems. To make matters worse, it has been found that fluoride can be very harmful to your overall health.

If you look on the back of a toothpaste tube, you will see a warning about the dangers of ingesting fluoride. Most products suggest contacting poison control if a child swallows more than the recommended amount. Wouldn't it be better to eliminate these ingredients, instead of adding a warning label to the product?

Does Fluoride Increase the Risk of Cancer?
Several research studies have suggested that fluoride is poisonous to the human body, and there was even a study in 1965 which showed clear evidence that cities with fluoridated water had higher deaths from cancer. Even though this information was discovered fifty years ago, there are still many recommendations to use fluoride, and it is very difficult to find cities that don't add fluoride to their drinking water.

Why Hasn't Fluoride Been Banned?
The problem is that immediate exposure to fluoride doesn't seem to cause a measurable impact on a person's health, and these negative health effects begin to occur over a period of extended toxic exposure.

Much of the information around the topic of fluoride is propaganda, so it is important that you take some time to do your own research in order to understand the impact that fluoride can have on your health.

Steps to Avoid Fluoride Exposure
you want to avoid fluoride in order to prevent cancer and maintain overall health, then these are a few things that you can do to protect yourself:

  • Use all-natural mouth wash and toothpaste products that are fluoride-free.
  • Refuse the fluoride service when visiting a dental office.
  • Install a high quality water filtration system in your home, and make sure the filter removes the fluoride.
  • Reduce the consumption of tea, because many types of tea plants absorb fluoride from the soil.

  1. Good article. However, for some of us with inflammatory and immune disease, the evidence of harm is immediate although since fluoridated water is ubiquitous, we might not figure it out. Many doctors tell their kidney and thyroid patients to avoid consuming fluoride, albeit behind closed doors because of organizational and peer pressure which is backed by the deep pockets of vested interests.

Expert in biochemistry with a particular interest in toxicology: “When I tried to raise the issue with the Australian Dental Association, whom I thought were interested in the science and in integrity, there was no interest. In fact there was a lot of pressure against me to say anything at all. There was a great concern about upsetting our principle sponsors, the toothpaste manufacturers….” – Dr. Andrew Harms, BDS, former fluoridation promoter and former President of the South Australian division of the Australian Dental Association (2013)

  2. I’m sad to be reminded that tea absorbs fluoride from the soil. I like to drink kombucha and tea is the main ingredient.

So many people are confused about fluoride and even pay to have fluoride treatments because they are told it is good for their teeth.

Very interesting blog about the dangers of fluoride. I remember as a child growing up how the use of fluoride was pushed by the dentists and the school systems to protect our teeth. Amazing what we are learning about that for years and years we all thought was safe for us. Pretty tragic.

  4. I use distilled water to avoid fluoride and add back trace minerals when drinking it. Even when cooking things like rice, I want to use pure water.

This is also a concern for mothers with very young children. My daughter’s pediatrician wanted to treat her teeth with fluoride as soon as they came through her gums. So they really push the fluoride from the very start with our children now. It’s scary to think it could have such negative effect on their health.

  6. Hello
It is very difficult to find info on the origin of fluoride however years ago we were told it was harmful! They have covered it well
And continue to push it on us through toothpaste as well as our oral professionals with all their treatments.
The info we saw about 10 to 15years ago showed it to be a waste product which was sold to our government! They then decided to put into our water and tell us it was good for our teeth and health!
I have tried to locate as I always refuse the treatment when my dentist offers and I do use fluoride free toothpaste

If fluoride increases the risk of cancer, then it should be banned outright. There is no point adding it to toothpaste.
