Help! My Hair Is Falling Out

“I have been on and off The Hallelujah Diet for the past 8 years. Just before adopting The Hallelujah Diet 8 years ago my hair began to fall out. Making the diet change didn’t stop my hair from falling out, so not thinking I was getting enough protein I added meat back into my diet.

Adding meat not only didn’t solve my hair problem, but when I added meat back into my diet it didn’t take long for me to feel awful again, like I did before adopting The Hallelujah Diet. So now I am back on The Hallelujah Diet and still experiencing hair loss. Nothing I try stops my hair loss. Do you have any suggestions? I am 54 years old and frustrated.”

EDITOR RESPONDS: The most common cause of excess hair loss that we see is lack of or too low of an intake of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega 3-fatty acids are found in walnuts, flax oil and fish oil. We have found the Pharmax brand of fish oil to be the cleanest and best processed. The next influence on excess hair loss is low thyroid. TSH readings are not sufficient in determining thyroid function. Not only do we need to look at TSH numbers, but also T3 and T4. If TSH is upper normal and T3 and T4 are in low- normal range one can assume low thyroid. Iodine is essential for proper thyroid function as well as all other cells of the body. Individual iodine needs vary but current research shows well over 90 percent of the US population to be deficient. I encourage those who think they may need iodine supplementation to read Iodine: Why You Need It – Why You Can’t Live Without It, by David Brownstein, MD.  Dr. Brownstein has more clinical experience with iodine that anyone I know of.

  1. yes.. also biotin is good for hair loss in many cases..best to have it all checked out

  2. Karen M… same here.. I’m 50 and losing hair like crazy. It soft due to juicing and the folic acid I take, but still having heavy hair loss.

  3. Part 2 from Allison R. Oh.. and I’m on Amour thyroid medication and still falling out. Eating plenty of nuts, and taking fish oil…still no help…Allison R.

    • My doctor wanted to put me on Amour and I refused to be on a medication for the rest of my life. My chiropractor/nutritionist advised that I had heavy metal and mercury toxicity. Using natural supplements to detox this stuff out, my thyroid is now working on its own and still tweeking to get my levels to where they should be. Much better now than where they were. I don’t suffer from the hair loss, but have peeling hands and soles of feet which can be an issue of hypothyroidism. Just thought I’d share from another angle.

Don’t underestimate your need for iodine. My integrative doctor (he is both MD and ND) put me on iodine several years ago, and through now taking 12.5 mg of Iodorol (non-prescription) twice a day for more than six months I have been weaned off a prescriptive thyroid. I also take 3 Tbs of coconut oil a day for healthy brain function. This is what works for me, along with being on the Hallelujah lifestyle. I am not recommending my regimen for anyone else, I am just saying that I have found what works for me so that my hair no longer falls out and my mind is functioning well. I am 72 years old and feeling better since adopting the Hallelujah lifestyle.

  5. The doctor I go to checks T4 and T3 and put me on a natural thyroid medicine. Also they realized that I needed progesterone. Estrogen dominance can cause your hair to fall out too. In addition they took me off of grains. Gluten drives hypothyroidism. That is my experience.

  6. I have been taking Biotin for about a year. I am still losing hair due to thyroid problems, but I am also growing new hair.

  7. Take apple cider vinegar and sage tea to rinse your hair. This induces the growth of hair. If your hair are dry then consume burdock and marshmallow tea. Massage your scalp regularly with horsetail.
These remedies are worth trying and will solve your hair problems.

  8. I had an illness where I was able to eat very little for close to three months. Could not get the physician assigned by my healthcare plan to seem believe how sick I was. I ultimately ended up in the hosp., etc. Anyway, when that was going on, my hair was fine. But, I had a delayed response so to speak, in that my hair fell out in large quantities shortly after that. I am eating very healthy now, hair no longer falling out, but my hair has not returned. I will try the recommendations regarding the flax oil, etc. I also have a thyroid issue, am considering getting an integrative Dr. as mentioned by the previous comments, but out of budget at present. Want to wear a wig, but worried the weight of the wig will cause problems with what hair remains. What a blessing the Hallelujah lifestyle is making, in that it stopped the hair loss. Just wish I could get my hair back now….lol….Is it safe to go ahead and try the iodine as mentioned if you are taking levothyroxine?
