“I have been on and off The Hallelujah Diet for the past 8 years. Just before adopting The Hallelujah Diet 8 years ago my hair began to fall out. Making the diet change didn’t stop my hair from falling out, so not thinking I was getting enough protein I added meat back into my diet.
Adding meat not only didn’t solve my hair problem, but when I added meat back into my diet it didn’t take long for me to feel awful again, like I did before adopting The Hallelujah Diet. So now I am back on The Hallelujah Diet and still experiencing hair loss. Nothing I try stops my hair loss. Do you have any suggestions? I am 54 years old and frustrated.”

EDITOR RESPONDS: The most common cause of excess hair loss that we see is lack of or too low of an intake of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega 3-fatty acids are found in walnuts, flax oil and fish oil. We have found the Pharmax brand of fish oil to be the cleanest and best processed. The next influence on excess hair loss is low thyroid. TSH readings are not sufficient in determining thyroid function. Not only do we need to look at TSH numbers, but also T3 and T4. If TSH is upper normal and T3 and T4 are in low- normal range one can assume low thyroid. Iodine is essential for proper thyroid function as well as all other cells of the body. Individual iodine needs vary but current research shows well over 90 percent of the US population to be deficient. I encourage those who think they may need iodine supplementation to read Iodine: Why You Need It – Why You Can’t Live Without It, by David Brownstein, MD. Dr. Brownstein has more clinical experience with iodine that anyone I know of.
