Key Takeaways from ‘Probiotics 101: Exploring the Role of Probiotics in Overall Health’

When Scott Stobaugh found out his son was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, he wasn't sure what to do. After hearing that probiotics could be the treatment needed to cope with this debilitating condition, Stobaugh's son decided to try this natural choice. Unfortunately, he went through dozens of supplements and saw little to no improvement.

Then, a friend of Stobaugh's from Nutraceutix, a probiotic company, heard about his son's condition and asked him to give probiotics one more shot – specifically the Nutraceutix Probi product. Two weeks after taking the supplements, Stobaugh noticed a huge difference in his son's symptoms. Two years after giving those probiotics a chance, Stobaugh's friend approached him to join the team at Nutraceutix where he is now the North American sales manager.

"Stobaugh discussed how beneficial probiotics can be."

After hearing about this incredible story, the Hallelujah Diet team was excited to ask Stobaugh to host our November webinar "Probiotics 101: Exploring the Role of Probiotics in Overall Health." During the live broadcast, he told his story and discussed how beneficial probiotics can be for the immune system, reasons to take a probiotic supplement daily and the best delivery systems for proper probiotic absorption.

Filling the Empty Parking Spots with Probiotics
During his presentation, Stobaugh shared his favorite analogy comparing your intestinal tract to parking spaces. There are trillions of probiotic organisms in your intestinal tract. For the perfect person, the intestinal tract would be completely lined with probiotic organisms – much like a parking lot would be fully packed with cars. But let's face it: Most parking lots are only full when surrounding establishments are prepared to bring the cars in, whether the stores are having sales or a venue is hosting an event.

But remember: Nobody's perfect. There are plenty of empty "parking spaces" in your intestinal tract, which unfortunately makes room for pathogens, or bad bacteria. If enough pathogens decides to take these empty parking spaces, you'll end up sick and likely prescribed an antibiotic by your doctor.

And that's a problem. Antibiotics can't tell the difference between good and bad bacteria. Your body needs good bacteria to thrive properly, but the antibiotics eliminate all kinds of existing bacteria.

If you take a probiotic daily, however, you can keep those parking spaces in your intestinal tract full, leaving no space for the bad bacteria to settle. They're forced to pass through your system, and then they end up eliminated.

When your parking spaces are full of probiotics, you'll notice a boosted immune system and improved digestive function. This ultimately reduces or eliminates your risk for developing multiple conditions and illnesses, such as urinary tract infections, eczema and even inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis – like Stobaugh's son had.

If your intestinal tract has empty parking spaces, harmful pathogens will come hang around. If your intestinal tract has empty parking spaces, harmful pathogens will come hang around.

Hallelujah Diet Professional Strength Probiotics and Oral Health Probiotics: What's the Difference?
Currently, we sell two different probiotic supplements: our Professional Strength Probiotics and our Oral Health Probiotics. Both offer several important advantages over our competitors, but they're not one in the same.

Our Professional Strength Probiotic uses BIO-tract® delivery technology, which is superior to standard capsules. These tablets form a gel barrier when swallowed and hydrated, which creates a protective barrier around the probiotic organisms from stomach acids. This professional strength supplement slowly releases probiotics along the entire length of the GI tract, which reduces the available attachment sites or "parking spaces" for pathogens and strengthens the healthy bacterial ecosystem. With 30 billion cfu per tablet at time of manufacturing, this high performance probiotic is great for correcting dysbiosis. The BIO-tract® delivery technology also keeps the probiotic organisms alive and stable on the shelf, so that even after 18 months there are still at least 10 billion cfu per tablet, guaranteed.

Our Oral Health Probiotics, on the other hand, offers similar benefits while also enhancing oral wellness. Most readers don't realize how important it is to take care of your mouth. Yes, it's critical to avoid tooth decay and gum disease, but not just for oral wellness. The mouth is essentially the door to the rest of the body. Harmful bacteria from conditions like periodontal disease can end up in the bloodstream, which can lead to cardiovascular complications and other harmful conditions.

For that reason – and many others – adding Oral Health Probiotics to your oral cleansing regimen is key. This formula, as well as our Children's chewable probiotic product contains a number of beneficial ingredients, including a probiotic strain of BLIS K12. People taking this ingredient, compared to a placebo, have been shown to experience reduced halitosis, middle ear infections, tonsillitis, sore throats and pharyngitis. Additionally, this strain can provide support for upper respiratory health in both children and adults. Besides brushing, flossing and using natural essential oil-based mouthwash in the morning and at night to kill bad bacteria, it's recommended to repopulate the good bacteria with an oral probiotic supplement.

By taking both our Professional Strength Probiotics and Oral Health Probiotics together, you'll notice enhanced oral health and gastrointestinal benefits throughout your entire digestive system.

If you missed the live November broadcast, don't worry! You can learn more about Stobaugh's journey in the world of probiotics, plus more information on our specific supplements by watching the recorded webinar.

  1. I have been using your probiotics for about a year now and have recommended them to several friends who have stomach problems. I am very satisfied with it and my friends have gotten good results.
What about prebiotics. A doctor online is saying to throw out your probiotics and to take prebiotics.
What is the difference between the two and which is best to use?

  2. I’m glad that Scott’s son who had ulcerative colitis was able to recover his health using probiotics!

I agree that digestive health is key to the health of the body.

I liked the illustration of the full parking lot verses the one with empty spots. It is a good way to visualize the good and bad bacteria in the gut.

I’m excited about using both Hallelujah Diet Professional Strength and Oral Health probiotic.
